What to do after moving in Estonia
When you move within Estonia, you must submit a notice of residence within 14 days of the change. You can do it in e-rahvastikuregister with an ID card, Mobiil-ID or Smart-ID, in person, by post or by digitally signed email (Ministry of the Interior).
On moving day it is also worth photographing the meter readings, checking your electricity and internet contracts and giving your new address to anyone who sends you bills or parcels.
Submit a notice of residence within 14 days
The notice must be submitted within 14 days of a change of residence within Estonia (Ministry of the Interior, checked September 2026). All adults listed in the notice must sign it, except people under guardianship.

Photograph meter readings in both homes
On moving day, photograph the water, electricity and heat meter readings in both the old and the new home. That makes it easy to agree who pays for what.
Check your electricity, internet and rental contracts
- Electricity: find out whether the contract moves with you or you need a new one.
- Internet and TV: moving the service to a new address often takes time, so order it early.
- Rental: hand over the old flat and sign a handover report for the new one.
Who to tell about your new address
- Your bank and your employer.
- Parcel locker and online shop accounts: update the address yourself.
- The kindergarten, school and family doctor, if they depend on where you live.
